Church of Saint Peter (Jaffa) - Israel Tours

Napoleon Bonaparte was entertained in one of the rooms when he visited in 1799

If you would like to see some truly amazing places while on your pilgrimage to Israel, St. Peter’s Church should definitely be among your stops. Overlooking the nearby fishing port, St. Peter’s Church in Old Jaffa has been recognized because of its tall steeple as a beacon to sea-bound travelers trying to reach the Holy Land. The church has an interesting charm, with a red brick facade vaulted ceilings, marble walls, stained glass windows and a mammoth painting of Peter’s visit by an angel over the altar. St. Peter’s church still holds daily Mass in several languages for the local community. Built in 1654 over the site of a medieval fortress, it was destroyed twice in the 18th century. The church you will see on your tour to the Holy Land was completed in 1894. Among the interesting visitors St. Peter’s Church has seen, Napoleon Bonaparte was entertained in one of the rooms when he visited the city in 1799.
